摘要:

Sugars are not only sources of carbon and energy, they can also function as signalling molecules, regulating plant development and stress responses. Fructans are fructose polymers build up from sucrose. The Lab of Molecular Plant Biology at KU Leuven, Belgium focuses on the metabolism of fructans and their use in preventive ‘priming’ strategies to ameliorate plant and animal health. Such ‘Sweet immunity’ based approaches may help to reduce the widespread use of antibiotics and toxic agrochemicals to counteract diseases.

(二):Halomonas Levan: From a Multifunctional Fructan to a Bioactive Material

摘要: 

  Biocompatible and biodegradable smart biopolymers are highly preferred in medical applications due to their cell surface responses, physiochemical compositions, rheological and biological properties like, biocompatibility, anticoagulation activity, anticancer and antimicrobial activities.Levan is a β (2  6) - linked water soluble, film former, nontoxic, biocompatible, and strongly adhesive fructan polymer widely distributed in nature and have several application areas including medicine, pharmacy, food, cosmetics, and chemical industries. Microbial exopolysaccharides synthesized by extremophiles have novel characteristics and have high value applications in several industries. First levan producer halophilic bacterium Halomonas smyrnensis was identified by our research group and further studies performed with Halomonas levan (HL) and chemically modified derivatives like phosphonated, sulfated, hydrolyzed, oxidized and anticancer, peptide and protein-based drug nanocarrier, anticoagulant heparin mimetic activities were reported. Blend and multilayer thin films,laser coated surfaces, hydrogels and electrospun fibers areproduced for wound healing and drug delivery purposes. This talk will summarize the recent findings of our research group on the production and application of HL.
